Instructions

Alternating Floor Press

1

Lie on the floor with two kettlebells next to your shoulders.

2

Position one in place on your chest and then the other, gripping the kettlebells on the handle with the palms facing forward.

3

Extend both arms, so that the kettlebells are being held above your chest. Lower one kettlebell, bringing it to your chest and turn the wrist in the direction of the locked out kettlebell.

4

Raise the kettlebell and repeat on the opposite side.

Butterfly

1

Sit on the machine with your back flat on the pad.

2

Take hold of the handles. Tip: Your upper arms should be positioned parallel to the floor; adjust the machine accordingly. This will be your starting position.

3

Push the handles together slowly as you squeeze your chest in the middle. Breathe out during this part of the motion and hold the contraction for a second.

4

Return back to the starting position slowly as you inhale until your chest muscles are fully stretched.

5

Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions.

Verdict

Both exercises target the chest. Alternating Floor Press is a beginner exercise using kettlebells, while Butterfly is beginner and uses machine. Choose Alternating Floor Press if you have access to kettlebells, or Butterfly if you prefer machine. Alternating Floor Press is a compound movement working multiple joints, making it better for overall strength. Butterfly isolates the target muscle for focused development.
